Why are we still talking about Amanda Knox?

Amidst all the drama that's going on with the American elections right now, one tweet in the maelstrom of political commentary immediately grabbed my attention:

Now, anyone that knows me will already be familiar with my thoughts on Amanda Knox. And none of them are particularly pleasant.

Since the abhorrent murder of Meredith Kercher and Knox's subsequent exoneration, I have had nothing but the most acidic vitriol for Amanda Knox. The way she presents herself and uses her ill-gotten notoriety to continue making herself relevant and worse of all, profit from the crime disgusts me to my core.

Whether you believe she was involved in the murder or not, the fact that she blatantly uses it as a crutch to make jokes and continually further her own career is just plain unacceptable. And so, I've made it my personal mission to try and avoid her like the plague. For example, when the media group Vice announced they had struck up a content creation partnership with Amanda Knox, I immediately boycotted them and to this day, I will not consume any media from Vice - I honestly can't bear to read or stumble across anything she has contributed to.

Meredith Kercher's story has always stuck with me, her smiling photograph of someone with their life ahead of them ingrained into my memory. Maybe it's because, like her, I studied abroad and I feel this particular affinity with her. However, I think the main reason I have still remembered her all these years later is that throughout her story, she has wrongfully never been the main character. She's almost the plot line at the start, only to be completely forgotten about as the story moves forward.

Meredith Kercher mattered, and she still does. I'm sure for her family, the grieving process has never ended, especially considering the horrific circumstances of her death. I cannot imagine what it must have been like today for a relative of Meredith's to wake up this morning and have to read that deeply hurtful tweet. What even goes through someone's mind to write something this insensitive?

To answer that question, it is my hypothesis that Amanda Knox is a complete and utter psychopath. She has no emotion, completely devoid of compassion and feeling. No-one with an ounce of common decency or humanity would have lowered themselves to that level of depravity. And yet, she feeds off of the attention, the controversy - basking in the limelight.  Not only does her behaviour make a mockery of Meredith Kercher's memory, detracting from her ordeal, but it also makes a mockery of anyone who has genuinely been a victim of a miscarriage of justice.

If Amanda Knox had been involved in Meredith Kercher's death (which I truly believe she was), then she should have faced the full extent of the law. Unfortunately, if she is indeed guilty, that will likely never happen now. Either way though, Amanda Knox needs to do the world a massive favour and just fade into obscurity. With the way she behaves, the very least she could do is become invisible and get on with her life quietly, a life that Meredith Kercher will never have the opportunity to live.

Having realised that talking about her gives her the attention she craves, this will be the first and last time I'll write about Amanda Knox. Because for me, she no longer exists. She is a non-entity. She does not deserve to be acknowledged. By choosing not to ratify her presence, it takes away her power, as well as the hatred I hold for her. I am now going to attain a state of complete indifference to her and greatly urge others to do so, which for someone as narcissistic as Knox, would cripple her fragile ego I'm sure.

Whatever happens, the next four years can't be as bad as the tragic end Meredith Kercher met. Let's all remember that.
